Flora Day is arguably one of the biggest events in our, well, Helston's, calendar. Even the entirety of the week before Flora, the pub sees more footfall as the merriment of Flora infects the town - Flora Eve is an experience that is indescribable, better than Christmas Eve in our humble opinion.
However, we know that not everyone is a Flora Day expert, and so we've decided to compile a few helpful tips & tricks to help your day go smoothly.

Get there early.
Flora Day, as we've already mentioned, is probably the busiest day of the year for Helston, which means parking fills up quickly! You'll want to get into town early to get a good space for the day. It's important to note the main high street is closed throughout the day, as trade stalls and of course the wonderful dancers and public, will line the streets from around 6am!
Make note of the dance timings.
Despite how busy the town gets, there is a schedule to all this madness!
7am - Early Morning Dance: the first dance of the day, warming the town up for the day ahead.

8:30am - Hal-an-Tow: A dance throughout the town depicting the tale of St George & the dragon.
9:50am - Children's Dance: The local school children put on a display. For many people this is nostalgic, as they danced this dance themselves when they were younger, and now their own children are taking part!
12:00pm - The Midday Dance: The most popular of all - the main event! The dancers are immaculately dressed in gowns, suits, top hats and all! You'll see plenty of people wearing the Lily of the Valley (very much a symbol of Flora Day).
5pm - The Evening Dance: drawing the day to a close, but don't be mistaken! The festivities are only just beginning...
Location, location, location.
The dancers will travel through the high street in town (Meneage Street, Coinagehall Street - which is where we're based), so be sure to plant yourself in a good spot to see the most of the action! Did you know, the dancers actually dance in and out of the shops in Helston?!
Pub Details
Obviously the main location to be is here in the pub!
The Blue Anchor Inn, 50 Coinagehall Street, Helston, TR13 8EL.
We open from 6am on Flora Day - perfect view point for the early morning dances.
We accept card & cash - cash on Flora Day is key, as the phone signal can be very temperamental, and cash payments make the queues dissipate faster!
We sell Blue Anchor reusable cups for £1 - bring it back and you get your £1 back!
From 11am, unfortunately we don't allow children under 14, dogs, or prams in the pub due to how crowded it can get.
We brew our own ale in celebration of Flora Day; Flora Daze! This will be on tap for you to try, however if you aren't about to try it, then order online here.

We hope this helps you, and if you have any questions then just let us know and we'll do our best to answer!
We'll see you on the big day!
