August at the Blue Anchor Inn

August - it's been hot! Thankfully, being in the pub, we can stay hydrated with our gorgeous home-brewed ale, Spingo!

Our head brewer Ben has been slaving away in this awful, sticky heat this month, brewing up several batches. Of course, Middle was our most brewed ale this month (with it being our most popular ale online and in pub, it does fly off the shelves pretty quick, or should I say, come out the taps quickly?!). He also brewed Flora Daze - not a normal brew for us at this time of year but it's certainly seen a lot of love recently, as has Special!

While Ben's been busy in the brewery, I've once again been busy behind the scenes with all the fun admin you lot don't get to see - however one fun part is being able to interview potential candidates for job openings here at the pub, and I'm delighted to announce we're looking to take on a new member of bar staff! As a member of staff here, you'd be able to experience epic events such as our Wild West Night which we hosted last Friday evening! We had live music from The Cornish Cowboy, and Jonny Tristram (who's just back from his Texas tour!), and plenty of dressed up pub patrons - it was a brilliant night. We are already looking forward to doing it again next year!

We have plenty more events planned for the rest of the year - summer may be coming to an end but the entertainment isn't. We have our St Julia's Hospice fundraiser on Sunday 13th September, from 2:30pm. This event is organised by Pete Merrifield, one of our loyal friends here in the pub, in aid of the charity, after the passing of his late wife. We like to support and promote this event as best we can, so please save the date and come along, and if you can, throw a few spare pennies in the fundraising buckets as they go around. There'll be plenty of live music, a few pasties and sausage rolls, and most importantly a great community spirit that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else.
